Neymar will have to undergo surgery. According to PSG, the Brazilian striker will miss the remainder of the season.
PSG medical report
“Neymar Jr has had several bouts of instability in his right ankle in recent years. After his last sprain on 20 February, the Paris Saint-Germain medical staff recommended a ligament repair operation to avoid a greater risk of recurrence. All the experts consulted confirmed this need,” read a PSG medical report.
“This surgery will take place in the next few days at the ASPETAR Hospital in Doha. He is expected to miss 3 to 4 months before returning to collective training.”
Injured three weeks ago
Neymar sprained his ankle playing against Lille on 19 February and had to be substituted in the 51st minute on a stretcher. Just a few days earlier, the Brazilian had started and played the entire first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich.
It seemed that this was going to be the year in which he was going to be respected at this time of the season, but in the end the Brazilian succumbed to another injury.
The team confirmed in a statement at the time that he had a “sprained ankle”, but warned that the first examination would not reveal a possible fracture. Now, the French side, given the “instability of the right ankle in recent years” will undergo surgery, bringing an end to his season.
Neymar has had numerous injuries at PSG, who he joined in the summer of 2017 from Barcelona in the most expensive transfer in football history.
