Troyes suffered a heavy defeat (4-0) against Rennes on Sunday, officially sealing their relegation to Ligue 2. With three games to go, ESTAC (19th) is 12 points behind the first non-relegated place occupied by Auxerre (16th). Despite the efforts of coach Patrick Kisnorbo, who took over the team on November 23, the club has only managed one win during his tenure. The City group will now have to absorb the loss of their French representative dropping down to Ligue 2 next season.
According to Stats Foot, this is the sixth time ESTAC has suffered a relegation in its 11 appearances in Ligue 1, making them the only club to have more relegations than seasons where they stayed up among teams that have participated in at least 10 seasons in the top flight. Troyes becomes the third Ligue 1 team to be relegated this season, after Angers and Ajaccio. The Corsican club were relegated to Ligue 2 after a 5-0 loss to PSG this weekend.
